ATLANTA, Georgia; October 1, 2018: Two power plants powered by GE's flagship HA gas turbines have been selected by electricity trade publication POWER magazine as 2018 Top Gas Power Plant Projects, adding to the company’s growing list of third-party accolades for the world's fast growing and most efficient fleet. The plants, Chubu Electric's Nishi Nagoya site and Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)'s Allen combined cycle site, are featured in the October issue of the magazine recognizing outstanding performance, technological innovation, and industry impact for combined-cycle gas power plants.
“We’d like to congratulate our very valued customers Chubu and TVA for receiving this honor and being named a Top Gas Project for 2018,” said Chuck Nugent, CEO of GE Power’s Gas Power Systems business. “We are honored to partner with them, and all of our customers, to change the way power is delivered and provide more efficient, flexible and reliable power to people and communities in every corner of the world.”
Chubu Electric’s Nishi Nagoya plant earned its accolades for securing the world record for most efficient combined cycle performance in March 2018, and for “providing reliable, inexpensive power supply to industries in central Japan, helping grow the regional and national economy.” TVA’s Allen combined cycle plant earned its recognition for being “the most efficient gas-fired facility in TVA’s fleet” and for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm Kiewit’s work to deliver the project ahead of schedule and under budget. The Allen plant is also a coal-to-gas conversion project, helping TVA meet US emissions goals and standards.
The HA - recognized for powering the world’s most efficient power plants in both 50hz and 60hz energy segments - continues to be the fastest growing fleet of advanced turbines in the world. More than 80 units have been ordered from 30+ customers in more than 15 countries, and it’s achieved more than 185,000 operating hours to date.
For more than four decades, POWER magazine has honored the top performers in the electricity-generating industry with annual power plant awards. Award winners are selected by the editors of POWER based on nominations submitted by power plant suppliers, designers, constructors, and operators.
