Glass Ceilings Broken: Women Developing Global Brands

April 26, 2016

January 2016 - The turn of the year is always a time of summaries and interesting facts. For example, did you know that the United Nations declared 2015 to be the International Year of Light and also the International Year of Soils? We can but wonder what 2016 will bring us…

The summaries did not omit business, either. Bloomberg Businessweek Poland announced the best managers of 2015, based on a survey of Poland’s leading senior business executives. BBP listed the most effective CEOs, awarding them based on success, perseverance, modernity and effectiveness in competing, not only in Poland but also in foreign markets.

There were four women among the 20 laureates, and one of them was GE’s Beata Stelmach, our CEO for Poland and the Baltics. It’s not the first time that the Polish media has recognized GE’s CEO as one of the best managers in the country - in 2014 she was named one of the most powerful businesswomen in the country by Polish magazine “Wprost”.

When asked how to succeed in business, she said: “I always tell people that there are no limits if you are determined to achieve your goals. I want to encourage young, talented people, especially women, to pursue their dreams. A Master’s degree is important, but on its own not enough. You need to read, listen to people, develop your interests and focus on the things that are important. If you want to be a good manager, you need to be accountable, fair and open to your employees’ ideas. These are the people who can make you an even better manager.”

Now, with another prize added to her account, Beata Stelmach proves once again that women can achieve high positions in the business world, and succeed once they’re there.
