GE Unveils Upgrade to LoSALT* Simulator Software for Oil Refineries to Measure Salt-Induced Corrosion

March 14, 2016
  • New GE LoSALT Online and Onsite Amine Speciation Technology Speeds the Delivery of Data
  • Upgraded Digital Solution Tests Critical Amine Contaminants at the Refinery
  • Powered by GE’s InSight* Industrial Internet Solution for Improved Performance Management, the New LoSalt Provides Automated and Instant Testing

SAN FRANCISCO-March 14, 2016-Combining the need to measure the salt-induced corrosion potential in oil refineries and the need for instantaneous digital data, GE (NYSE: GE) today announced an upgrade to its LoSALT* simulator software. GE’s new LoSALT Online and Onsite Amine Speciation technology enables testing of critical amine contaminants on-site at the refinery. Today’s announcement was made at the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) 2016 Annual Meeting, which is being held March 14-15, 2016, in San Francisco.

Powered by GE’s InSight* Industrial Internet solution, the new LoSalt provides automated and instant analysis, which speeds the delivery of data that calculates critical parameters related to crude unit salting. Refineries implementing the digital tool can use the data to reduce system corrosion and fouling, which increases the efficiency of refinery operations. In addition, avoiding corrosion also prevents the unexpected release of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere and environment.

“Previously, refinery operators could only test on-site for a small number of amines and had to send samples away to a laboratory. GE’s new LoSALT Online and Onsite Amine Speciation technology now offers refineries a more accurate, comprehensive and instantaneous method of testing and receiving critical data,” said Amy Ericson, global leader, chemical and monitoring solutions-water and process technologies for GE Power.

GE’s LoSALT Online and Onsite Amine Speciation technology can increase protection of the crude overhead system by providing a more complete picture of the salting and corrosion potential than previously possible. It also can improve profitability by providing advice on changes to the tower yield profile by knowing the impact of operational changes on salting and corrosion.

Today at the AFPM 2016 Annual Meeting, GE also announced the introduction of TrueSense* for Process-Crude Overhead Monitoring System (COMS) and CrudePLUS*.
