GE Partners with SP Group, SPRING Singapore and Platform E to Build Digital Industrial Ecosystem in Singapore

April 17, 2017

GE Opens Asia Digital Operations Center

SINGAPORE - April 12, 2017 - GE (NYSE: GE) today announced that it will partner with SP Group (SP) to develop IIOT capabilities and intelligent applications to enhance power network reliability and efficiency in Singapore. The digital applications will optimize engineering expertise and resources to boost productivity. GE also signed a series of partnership agreements to build digital industrial capabilities in Singapore and the region. GE and SPRING Singapore will co-develop an incubation program for technology start-ups and small businesses, and with Platform E, GE aims to advance industrial internet entrepreneurship in the country. GE will also open an Asia Digital Operations Center (A-DOC) in Singapore to support GE’s global IT services and operations, further strengthening the national ecosystem.

“The Industrial Internet represents a multi-billion-dollar opportunity for industry. We look forward to working with our partners in Singapore to build a digital ecosystem and support entrepreneurship in the country,” said Jeff Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE.

Engineering and digital experts from GE and SP will create tools that leverage data analytics and artificial intelligence to enable better asset performance and reduce unplanned downtime in network operations. Customers can look forward to cost savings from predictive maintenance enabled by access to global domain knowledge and expertise.

“Singapore will be the first to benefit from enhanced efficiency through digital twin, while maintaining world class reliability. SP strives to deliver a high-quality, sustainable lifestyle to our customers,” said Mr Wong Kim Yin, Group Chief Executive Officer, SP Group.

The first of its kind in ASEAN, GE’s collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Management’s (SIM) entrepreneurship center, Platform E, will tap into both partners’ knowledge resources and expertise and establish a co-working space to incubate Industrial Internet start-ups locally and in the region. Start-ups will benefit from Platform E’s unique entrepreneur-centered programs mentored by GE’s experts, and learn from GE’s own digital transformation journey. They will also have access to the Predix platform to co-develop business solutions and applications, as well as leverage scaling and funding opportunities from both parties.

“Platform E is excited about partnering with GE to open up many opportunities in IIOT that tap into verticals such as Smart Nation and regionalization, both in Singapore and across ASEAN,” said Mr Tan Soo Jin, Chairman of SIM’s Governing Council. “Singapore businesses that have government funding to regionalize will now have a roadmap to follow when they look to expand Industrial Internet projects outside the country.”

The collaboration with SPRING Singapore to develop a SME/start-up incubation and acceleration program is aimed at promoting innovative ideas and digital solutions in the Industrial IoT technology space for Singapore and the ASEAN region. Some of these areas include agile programming, machine learning and algorithms for asset performance management and cybersecurity. A key objective is to grow the digital industrial application economy through GE’s Predix Market Place, where local start-ups and SMEs can find new customers or partners in GE or GE’s global customer base.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with a leading Digital Industry player like GE. This partnership will enable our start-ups and SMEs to level up their digital capabilities, enhance their competitiveness and scale up quickly,” said Mr Poon Hong Yuen, Chief Executive of SPRING Singapore.

GE Enhances Singapore’s Digital Industrial Capabilities

GE is committed to growing a globally-networked, Predix-powered community of systems integrators, technology providers and developers in Singapore to build software and applications to help industries harness the Industrial Internet. Predix is the platform that will connect machines, data and people to power the industrial companies of the future so they can deliver outcomes faster, smarter and more efficiently.

“GE’s investment to establish A-DOC in Singapore is testament to our strong digital capabilities and IT infrastructure. The partnerships with SPRING, Platform E and SP Group are also excellent developments that will help the tech community in Singapore address the growing opportunities in the industrial IOT space within Asia,” said Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board. “They will create interesting jobs and opportunities for Singaporeans.”

A-DOC is the first location in Asia that supports GE’s IT services and operations globally. It also marks the start of GE’s investment and commitment to develop digital industrial capabilities in Singapore. Initially the Center will house around 60 employees, including network and security operations engineers, enterprise applications engineers, reliability engineers and technical product managers. There is an opportunity to expand software jobs three-fold over the next five years. The Center is part of a larger strategy currently underway at GE to transform how IT is delivered across the company - and helps provide 24/7 IT resources and support for GE.
