GE Opens New Oil Sands Support Centre in Fort McMurray Centre Demonstrates GE's Continued Investment in Alberta

December 06, 2011

FORT MCMURRAY, December 6, 2011 -- Today, GE will officially open its Oil Sands Support Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The facility will provide greater local support to oil sands customers as they experience significant growth in this important sector. GE has a strong commitment and presence in the province of Alberta with offices in Calgary, Edmonton and surrounding areas.

"Our investment in Fort McMurray will help us respond to the needs of our customers in the oil and gas sector, bring a solid GE team together under one roof and allow us to leverage the extensive expertise of GE's team across Alberta," said Keith Triginer, Country Executive, GE Energy Canada.

"GE has built a strong foundation in the province, from our service facilities in Edmonton, research investments with the province and academia, financial investment from GE Capital, to the new Innovation Centre of Excellence in Calgary opening in 2012. Alberta is an important market for GE Canada."

GE is looking to expand its local employee base and the new office offers an opportunity to hire, train and retain the best talent in the area. The new facility will house 16 employees from across GE's Energy business platforms, supporting local customers with first response to business operations as well as deliver training that was previously done in Edmonton or Calgary. The office is located just off Highway 63 which makes it very accessible to customers travelling to and from the oil sands.

GE's Alberta Energy business includes Water and Process Technologies, which is primarily involved with providing Oil Sands customers with chemical and equipment solutions to meet water and process system needs. Today's announcement reinforces GE's commitment to improve water reuse, a key commitment of ecomagination, a business strategy to create new value for customers, investors and society by solving energy, efficiency and water challenges.
