GE Healthcare Performance Solutions Commits to Growth in Canada with New National Leader

October 12, 2011

ONTARIO, CANADA -- October 12, 2011 -- GE Healthcare today announced the appointment of Kathy Winter as National Leader, GE Healthcare Performance Solutions, Canada. Together with her team, Winter will be responsible for leading the growth of GE's Performance Solutions business across the Canadian healthcare market.

Performance Solutions is a division of GE Healthcare that partners with hospitals and health systems across the globe to improve their operational performance so they are better equipped to succeed amidst the complex challenges facing healthcare today. With its unique combination of advisory services, technology, governance strategies and world-recognized GE management and operations methodologies, Performance Solutions helps its clients improve quality, safety, outcomes and access while managing costs.

"Every day, provider organizations and clinicians are working exceptionally hard to meet the growing challenges of delivering care in our changing environment" said Winter. "I am excited to help lead a team that will work closely with our clients to help reduce wait times, support a safer environment for patient care, create sustainable efficiencies and implement effective leadership strategies."

The Performance Solutions team has been working with healthcare providers as well as regional and national health authorities across Canada to help address performance improvement objectives, safety and quality measures, as well as design and implement strategic organizational plans over the last 5 years. With the presence of a dedicated, regional team led by Winter, Performance Solutions will work to amplify these efforts with clients across Canada.

"In recent years, we've seen an ongoing dialogue between the Canadian governments, healthcare providers and consumers on a shared agenda for renewal of the health care system in Canada," said Peter Robertson, VP and General Manager, GE Healthcare Canada. "There is a significant amount of pressure for hospitals and health systems to be more efficient and Kathy along with her team are well positioned to help the Canadian healthcare market address some of the these challenges."

With more than 20 years of health service management and consulting experience, Winter has demonstrated considerable leadership in operations management, strategic and systems planning, health services evaluation, facilitation, and change management across the healthcare continuum. She has worked for both public and private sector clients, provincial governments, and associations where she regularly consults with clinicians, senior health care leaders and Board members.

Winter was a Principal with Courtyard Group, IBM Canada and PWC Canada leading national practices in clinical optimization and performance improvement. She is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and holds a BScN and MBA in addition to advanced preparation in epidemiology and biostatistics. She has lectured in strategic planning at McMaster University and is currently a visiting faculty member at the Samson Academy, Cleveland Clinic. In addition, she regularly speaks to groups about leadership development, making change stick, integrating lean practices and implementing strategy.
