GE Begins Union Contract Talks

June 03, 2019

BOSTON - June 3, 2019 - GE (NYSE:GE) today began negotiations on a new national contract with the Coordinated Bargaining Committee (CBC) of GE unions. The current four-year contracts with the unions expire at midnight on June 23, 2019.

“GE is committed to reaching a fair contract that provides good wages and meaningful benefits while addressing the unique challenge we face today to return GE to a position of strength,” said Paul Lalli, GE’s chief negotiator. “GE and its unions have successfully negotiated 14 consecutive national contracts and many more local contracts over the past four decades. We look forward to continuing this positive track record.”

There are approximately 6,600 GE employees represented by contracts with 11 unions that are part of the CBC. The IUE-CWA is the largest of the GE unions; others include the IAM, UAW, IBEW, and IFPTE. The current labor agreement covers employees at a number of U.S. facilities, including in Lynn, Mass., Evendale, Ohio, Madisonville, Ky., and Strother, Kan. for GE Aviation; Schenectady, N.Y. for GE Power; Bucyrus, Ohio for GE Lighting, and Milwaukee and Waukesha, Wis. for GE Healthcare.

GE employs approximately 283,000 people globally, including 97,000 in the U.S., and remains one of the largest manufacturers in the country.
