Chief Technology Officer of GE's Water Business to Lead Panel at Techweek Los Angeles

November 19, 2014

“Technology: Game-Changer for a Water Thirsty World” to Feature GE’s Thomas Stanley

TREVOSE, PA.-November 19, 2014-GE (NYSE: GE) today announced that Thomas Stanley, chief technology officer-water and process technologies for GE Power & Water, will headline a panel at Techweek Los Angeles. The event-to be held November 17-23 at the Santa Monica Pier-will showcase, celebrate and enable emerging innovation ecosystems in Los Angeles and along the West Coast. This year’s conference marks Techweek’s first exploration into water and energy issues.

For his “Technology: Game-Changer for a Water Thirsty World” session-taking place Friday, November 21, at 11 a.m. PST on the Santa Monica Pier’s FameBit Stage-Stanley will be joined by Richard Atwater, executive director on water resources for the Southern California Water Committee, and John Hanula, director of global business development for government and infrastructure for MWH Global, an international infrastructure engineering company. The discussion will be moderated by Susan Karlin, an award-winning science and technology journalist and regular contributor to Fast Company, NPR and IEEE Spectrum.

Water-one of the world’s most valuable resources-is under a constant threat due to climate change, drought and explosive population growth. The panelists will explore the diverse risks and vast implications. Specifically, Stanley will emphasize steps that must be taken to address major water challenges, such as scarcity and resiliency, through financial support and technical innovation to help industry and communities prosper.

In addition, the panelists will address:

  • Water scarcity on a global and local level.
  • Smart technologies and how they are making a difference.
  • Examples of innovations in advanced analytics, industrial water reuse, desalination, produced water treatment and infrastructure.
  • Partnership models and how industries and municipalities can work together with technology developers to develop, pilot and implement advanced water technology.

“Technology: Game-Changer for a Water Thirsty World” is part of Techweek Los Angeles’ GreenTECH Summit, which features leaders and luminaries in the areas of energy, environmental conservation and sustainability. The GreenTECH Summit will cover issues such as resource depletion, climate change mitigation and renewable energy market barriers on both a local and global scale to promote a greener future.

As chief technology officer for GE’s water business, Stanley leads the global technology organization and works together with the commercial, product management, engineering and supply chain organizations to maximize growth through new product introductions and technology initiatives. He holds eight patents and is a member of the advisory committee for the University of California, Santa Barbara chemical engineering department.
