February 2016 - PKN Orlen's gas and steam unit in Włocławek has successfully implemented its first synchronization with the Polish national grid. This was made possible with GE’s ‘Power Train’ and, as a result, the first deliveries of electricity from the new CCGT plant went to the grid.
The heart of the Włocławek’s plant is its most complex part, the so-called ‘Power Train’ - a 330-ton gas turbine, 420-ton generator and over 350-ton steam turbine - which was constructed by GE and SNC Lavalin. To ensure that the power train works efficiently, and that power is delivered consistently, PKN Orlen has entered into a long-term service agreement with GE.
The gas and steam unit in Włocławek is one of two (next to Płock) key co-generation power projects run by PKN Orlen. Electricity produced by the two blocks, in combination with the heat in high efficiency cogeneration, will be used not only for internal purposes but also for sale on the domestic market.
The Włocławek plant plays a serious role in meeting the objectives of Polish energy policy, which marks the development of high-performance units and the reduction of harmful emissions into the environment. GE is proud to help meet such targets.
