Ioc President Thomas Bach Acknowledges Important Role Of Infrastructure Sponsor, Ge, In Building The Sustainable Legacy Of The Olympic Games

August 22, 2016

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - August 22, 2016 - In a private luncheon hosted by the Vice Chairman of GE, John Rice, IOC President Thomas Bach spoke of the role of The Olympic Partners (TOP), and of GE specifically, in developing transformative infrastructure to support the Olympic Games.

Bach told GE customers and partners at GE’s Global Research Center in Rio:

“Rio 2016 has been an iconic Olympic Games in many aspects. Our Olympic Partners play a significant role in the execution of the Games, and GE has been instrumental in providing critical infrastructure technology to make the Games successful.

GE’s technology is everywhere on the Olympic sites. It is also very much present in the legacy that the Games will leave for the residents of the host city.

GE partnership with the Brazilian Canoe & Kayak Federation has also proven to be a very positive one as the team has brought the first two medals of that sport to Brazil.

For all these reasons, I see GE as a close member of the Olympic Family and I thank you for your continuous commitment and passion for the Olympic Movement.”

The luncheon attended by GE customers and partners from around the globe was a celebration of 10 years of GE sponsorship of the Olympic Games.
