GE Romania Wins 'Deal of the Year' with Alstom Acquisition

May 20, 2016

May 2016 - GE Romania has received a Romanian Energy Award in the Deal of the Year category following the Alstom acquisition. The award was presented last week at an official event organized by The Diplomat - Bucharest, and took place in the Romanian capital. After more than a month of intricate deliberation from a Jury of prominent energy industry leaders, winners were selected in 20 assigned categories for both conventional and renewable energy.

The awards are now an annual tradition that acknowledge performance and exceptional accomplishments in the Romanian energy sector, and recognize the outstanding success of companies and individuals in special projects and areas of business, as well as overall involvement in the development of the country’s business climate.

“The acquisition of Alstom is the biggest industrial investment GE has ever made, and it brings together more than 300,000 employees across 175 countries. Together, GE and Alstom have 230 years of combined experience in the power industry. We are planning to make the energy industry more accessible, reliable and sustainable for all people in the region. Our focus is to provide high-quality products, services, technical support and product development, and GE will continue to support innovation, values and technology,” said Adriana Mirela Mircea, GE Government Affairs & BD for SEE, at the event.

The 5th edition of the Romanian Energy Awards also marked an anniversary for The Diplomat - Bucharest itself, which is celebrating 12 years of journalism and business events in Romania. Continuing each year’s tradition, the awards brought together a Who’s Who of the Romanian energy sector; the Gala attended by top managers and influencers from leading companies, providers and distributors, as well as government and regulatory authority officials.

Top managers, practices and projects were awarded within 20 categories judged by a panel of nine prominent names connected to the energy sector: Iulian Iancu, Committee for Industries and Services - Chairperson, Chamber of Deputies; Aristotel Jude, State Secretary, Ministry of Energy; Nicolae Havrilet, President of ANRE, Bogdan Marius Chiritoiu, President of the Romanian Competition Council; Valeriu Binig, Partner at E&Y; and Professor Virgil Musatescu from the Technical University of Bucharest.

In 2015, GE completed the acquisition of Alstom power & grid, the biggest industrial investment GE has ever made and one crucial to its transformation. Together, GE and Alstom have the most diverse energy portfolio in the industry and have helped shape today’s modern electric power system. The complementary technology, global capability, installed base and talent of Alstom will further support GE’s core industrial growth, as both companies have a rich and similar history that is built on engineering, innovation and technology.

Through the integration of Alstom, GE will continue to honor its fundamental commitments to offer the greatest level of service and support, to operate with only the highest level of integrity and safety, to continue to invest in its portfolio, and to find new ways to create value for its customers. The new power and grid capabilities that GE provides will also make a significant contribution to the “GE Store” - a compilation of technology, resources, intellect and expertise that all GE businesses contribute to and benefit from.
