GE Healthcare provides advanced capabilities to state-of-the-art hospital in British Columbia

ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA, SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 --- GE Healthcare today announced at the grand opening of the new Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) that the ARHCC has been installed with a wide variety of state-of-the-art healthcare technologies to help its physicians diagnose a wide range of diseases. Residents of Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley will now have greater access to some of the most innovative and technologically advanced diagnostic and treatment services in British Columbia.

"We are incredibly proud to be a part of this flagship project -- the first public-private partnership hospital for BC and the first new regional hospital to be built here in almost 30 years," said Peter Robertson, General Manager, GE Healthcare, Canada. "GE's partnership with Access Health Abbotsford, the BC Cancer Agency and Fraser Health Authority means that area residents have access to improved health care services and facilities, both complimenting and enhancing ARHCC's focus on delivering exceptional patient care."

"We are thrilled to partner with GE Healthcare to provide residents of Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley with some of the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technology in the country, making this facility truly state-of-the-art," said Jeri Lynch, Project Manager, Equipment and Technical Operations for the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre.

As part of this historic partnership, GE Healthcare delivered a complete solution for the hospital that linked technology to patient needs across a range of clinical care areas, including the first MRI machine for a hospital in the Fraser Valley, a new neonatal intensive care unit focused on high risk newborns, real time monitoring of the Emergency Room beds, wireless, bedside nurse call stations to enhance patient focus, and expanded surgical suites with a focus on cardiac care.

Created as part of GE's early health model, these products allow healthcare professionals to focus on early diagnosis, intervention and prevention of disease. The aim is to help people live longer, fuller lives while decreasing the occurrence of unnecessary surgeries.

ARHCC will offer innovations including digital mammograms, CT, mobile and digital X-ray units, complete physiological monitoring systems, telemetry systems and other wireless communication tools, gamma cameras, portable ultrasound units, one bone densitometer, anesthesia patient systems and portable vital signs monitors among other technologies. GE Healthcare is also providing medical imaging management, physician information management and a full suite of surgery-related solutions for the new facility.
